What this site is
HardnessCheck reports county-level hardness measured by public sampling programmes, plus softener sizing and cost estimates built on published figures. It is informational only. It is not a test of your water and not a substitute for your utility's own report or a certified lab.
No warranty on the figures
Every hardness figure traces to the public Water Quality Portal, but a county median describes the sampling record, not any one address, and sampling sites change over time. Cost and sizing figures are estimates. Nothing here is guaranteed to match your tap, and no figure should be the sole basis for a purchase, a property decision or a health decision.
Not plumbing, health or legal advice
Hardness is a cost and a nuisance, not a health hazard, and this site does not assess any other contaminant. If you have a health concern about your water, use a certified laboratory and your local health department.
